Hey, I'm Donna!

I'm a Diabetic Lifestyle Coach and I help women take charge of their health by focusing on small lifestyle changes that prevent diabetes.

5 years ago, I was diagnosed with prediabetes.

Like many of the women I've worked with, I never thought it would happen to me. Even after taking care of my mother, who suffered an amputation and passed away in 2014 due to complications with diabetes, the thought of being diagnosed as a prediabetic never crossed my mind.

I thought my eating habits and activity were good enough.

But when the doctor handed me the pamphlets, a prescription for "better diet and exercise", and a 3 month follow up appointment, I knew it was real.

I remember asking myself, "How am I was supposed to squeeze all of this into my busy life? And there has to be more education and guidance on how to reverse this diagnosis!" I was not going to allow prediabetes to take control of my life!

The Wake Up Call

I knew if I didn’t make immediate changes in my life, I’d follow in my mother’s footsteps and be dependent on insulin for the rest of my life. And more than likely, if nothing changed, my daughter would follow in my path, and this would become a never-ending cycle of unhealthy behavior with detrimental consequences.

That was not the legacy I wanted to leave. I was determined that history would NOT repeat itself.

It was time to take action!

  • I got help to better understand my diagnosis.
  • I took gradual and consistent action to replace unhealthy habits with healthy habits.
  • I learned how to incorporate a healthy diet and exercise into my busy life.
  • I became so passionate about managing prediabetes that I started studying with some of the most reputable organizations to become certified as a Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle Coach.

As a result of the changes that I made in 2015, I lost 20 lbs and have kept it off. That was five years ago! I successfully reversed my prediabetes diagnosis and haven't looked back.

I'm healthier, happier, and determined not to let diabetes become my destiny.

This is how Detour From Diabetes was born. And the rest as they say, is history

My mother, Grace, is my inspiration. I honor her memory by working with women like you in preventing diabetes.
